Engage in thought-provoking discussions about global politics, international institutions, and their impact on intergovernmental relations. The MA in Politics and International Relations of the Middle East prepares you to critically examine established perspectives and assess your own viewpoints regarding current issues facing the Middle East and North Africa.
This program offers an intensive, research-based, multidisciplinary framework for analyzing the modern Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It seeks to develop sophisticated understanding of the complex forces—including cultural, political, and ideological elements—that influence the region's international affairs. You'll gain the ability to critically assess theoretical frameworks, drawing insights from empirical case studies supported by thorough qualitative analysis and ethical considerations. The MA leverages the academic expertise of our Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (IMEIS) and the broader School of Government and International Affairs.
Your education will benefit from cutting-edge research conducted by leading specialists in their disciplines. Foundational courses covering Middle East International Politics, Non-Arab Middle Eastern States, and Global South Research establish the program's core. You can customize your studies through elective modules ranging from Global Governance to Political Ideologies, with opportunities to focus on another world region or study Arabic. These specialized interests can be expanded through your dissertation research.
Graduates emerge prepared for professional opportunities in international agencies, government, NGOs, as well as careers in media, education, business, and academic research.
