Our Master of Arts in Environmental Hazards and Risk provides an in-depth exploration of various natural disasters causing destruction globally, assessing their societal consequences and investigating risk management strategies for phenomena like floods, landslides, extreme heat, and seismic activity.
Blending physical and social science perspectives, the program investigates how communities, institutions, and policymakers evaluate environmental threats and implement protective measures to reduce vulnerability while enhancing resilience.
This one-year full-time or two-year part-time program includes modules focusing on risk assessment methodologies, societal aspects of hazards, and contemporary techniques for analyzing environmental data. A specialized module addresses emerging research in this rapidly evolving discipline.
The program concludes with a dissertation option: either an independent research project on a chosen topic or a practice-based study combining fieldwork with academic investigation.
Through our partnership with the prestigious Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) based at our university, you'll gain insights from leading international specialists. The IHRR hosts annual seminars that expose students to groundbreaking research and practical applications.
As one of five graduate programs in our Geography Department, this course contributes to a dynamic postgraduate network known for its collaborative academic environment and supportive social community.
