The Graduate Diploma in Philosophy allows you to follow your passion for philosophical studies, whether aiming for an MA degree or simply seeking deeper insight into the exploration of knowledge and existence that has shaped civilization for thousands of years.
This program spans nine months for full-time students or 18 months part-time, with no prior academic philosophy experience required. You'll choose four elective modules covering diverse topics from moral philosophy and value systems to medical history and theory, as well as classical thought and modern European philosophy. A dissertation forms an essential component of your studies.
GDip students gain access to our Department's rich intellectual life, including participation in EIDOS (our postgraduate philosophy association), regular research seminars, reading groups, and special events like conferences, workshops, and Royal Institute of Philosophy lectures.
We take pride not only in our distinguished research and teaching standards but also in fostering a dynamic, supportive academic environment. Our department leads in philosophical education and research, particularly in addressing significant global challenges through philosophical perspectives.
Our goal for GDip students is to cultivate the expertise and critical thinking abilities needed to meaningfully engage in worldwide discussions and policymaking that influence contemporary society.
