At Durham, our Department's diverse expertise equips you to address both classic and emerging challenges in sports and exercise through multiple academic lenses. Our research-active faculty has designed a curriculum that establishes a solid grounding in core sport, exercise, and health sciences—covering physiology, psychology, physical activity, nutrition, and health.
The program allows you to customize your studies with optional modules such as Sociology of Sport, Sport, Health and Environment, or Sports Development, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the field. We emphasize career readiness through practical placement opportunities in sports and exercise, plus access to interdisciplinary modules university-wide. You may also extend your three-year degree to four years by adding an industry placement or international study year.
Your final year features an in-depth dissertation project, letting you explore a specialized topic in sports or exercise science.
