The Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE) focuses on a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to dance research, spanning artistic and academic domains such as cultural heritage, technology and artificial intelligence, intellectual property, health and wellness, and practice-based studies.
C-DaRE organizes numerous conferences, symposiums, and research events that draw participants from throughout the UK and around the world. Our biennial Dance and Somatic Practices conference serves as a global platform for scholars and practitioners to exchange innovative ideas through curated panels, presentations, workshops, and performance showcases. Additionally, we host a distinctive event series called C-DaRE Invites, where each gathering offers a one-of-a-kind experience co-created by our team and guest contributors. These events may feature presentations, lectures, discussions, practice demonstrations, performances, and film screenings, all free and open to the public (unless specified otherwise). Participants include C-DaRE members, postgraduate researchers, and invited external experts, artists, and organizations. Every event centers on themes tied to the invitee's ongoing research and personal interests, often scheduled around mealtimes—breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea—to foster connection. We view shared meals as a catalyst for dialogue, relationship-building, and collaboration, providing refreshments for both presenters and attendees to enjoy together during the event.
