Our Welsh and Linguistics (BA) degree offers comprehensive training in the Welsh language, its literary traditions, and cultural context, while exploring diverse linguistic subjects. You'll master advanced written and spoken Welsh while cultivating collaborative abilities, analytical thinking, and career-ready creative competencies for contemporary Wales. The program accommodates both native and second-language Welsh speakers, with tailored introductory modules for second-language learners before merging both groups in later years. You can examine subjects ranging from classical to modern Welsh literature, language policy, and professional translation practices. The linguistics curriculum provides foundational training in language analysis (covering phonetics, morphology, and syntax), with flexible module choices that encourage critical engagement with current methodologies and societal discussions. You'll develop professional capabilities through varied writing projects, specialized software training, and real-world language analysis, learning to articulate ideas effectively to diverse audiences. Practical experience includes Welsh-language workplace placements to build professional confidence. The program culminates with an independent research dissertation on a Welsh language, cultural, or literary topic of your choosing.
