Political Theory represents a specialized field of study available within our Politics and International Relations research programs (MPhil, PhD). Our School boasts a vibrant research environment, recognized for its high-caliber academic output and increasing success in securing research funding. The institution houses the prestigious Collingwood and British Idealism Center, drawing international scholars, including distinguished figures like Professors Carole Pateman and Rex Martin, who have been awarded honorary positions at Cardiff. The Political Theory Research Unit stands out for its unique concentration of experts in political theory and intellectual history, providing comprehensive supervision across diverse topics such as British idealism, Collingwood studies, contemporary political theory, distributive justice, environmental politics, Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment thought, gender studies, globalization, global justice, intellectual history, political philosophy, historiography, humanitarian intervention, human rights, identity politics, ideology critique, international law, international relations, just war theory, liberalism, multiculturalism, nationalism, normative political theory, and Žižekian political theory.
Program durations: PhD - 3 years full-time, MPhil - 1 year full-time
