Comparative Politics, Policy and Governance represents a key research focus available within our Politics and International Relations postgraduate programs (MPhil, PhD). Our School boasts a vibrant research environment, renowned for its high-caliber academic output and increasing success in securing research funding. We host both the Wales Governance Centre and the European Governance, Identity and Public Policy Research Unit, drawing visiting academics from across Europe and globally. Students can pursue research supervision in diverse areas including African Studies, American Politics, British Politics, Comparative Politics, Devolution, Distributive Justice, Electoral Systems, Environmental Policy, EU & European Integration, French Politics, German Politics, Globalization, Governance Studies, Human Rights, Italian Politics, Multiculturalism, Nationalism, Political Economy, Party Systems, Public Policy, Social Movements, Territorial Politics, Welsh Politics and West European Politics.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should have a good Honours degree in Politics or International Relations (2:1 or equivalent) or overseas equivalent in a relevant subject.

We will consider all individual applicants on their specific merits. If you do not have the standard qualifications for the course, you may still apply. Your application will be considered if you have the following,

Masters degree in Politics or International Relations (or equivalent) with an average mark of at least 65%.
Applicants with appropriate professional experience.
Interviews (via Skype/Phone or in person) may be conducted to identify and assess the academic merit of prospective students.
Those whose first language is not English must obtain a score of at least 7.0 in IELTS (with no less than 6.5 in the Writing element and no less than 5.5 in Listening, Speaking and Reading).
