Our Composition program is one of the specialized pathways within our Music research degrees (MPhil, PhD). Students in this program work alongside renowned composers who bring global recognition and extensive experience in modern musical composition. The curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for professional composing careers. A unique feature includes having original compositions workshopped, rehearsed, and recorded by professional musicians, providing invaluable hands-on experience in bringing creative visions to life within a supportive environment. Regular composition seminars occur throughout the academic year (weekly or biweekly), covering technical aspects, contemporary repertoire, and discussions with guest composers when available. Students may also have chances to conduct their works with the University's Contemporary Music Group and professional visiting ensembles.
Program duration - PhD: 3 years full-time, MPhil: 1 year full-time
