At the University of York, Music research spans diverse areas. Our experts cover historical, cultural, and critical musicology; composition (both acoustic and electronic); performance (particularly contemporary and historically informed practices); music analysis; music education; music psychology and cognition; artificial intelligence in music; and emerging audio technologies. Numerous initiatives cross disciplinary boundaries, fostering partnerships with researchers outside Music.
These approaches are integrated into our three Research Clusters: the Contemporary Music Research Cluster, the Musical Cultures and Communities Research Cluster, and the Music, Science and Technology Research Cluster.
