Our institution serves as an innovative and all-encompassing hub for outstanding musical research, composition, and performance. The School of Music's research-focused faculty provides guidance across all musical disciplines, including musicology, composition, and performance. For PhD candidates, specialization is available in any of these fields, with final submissions accepted in three formats: a written dissertation, a collection of original compositions accompanied by analysis, or a live performance with an academic thesis. We blend recognized scholarly excellence in specific domains with active participation in broader academic circles and a distinct awareness of our cultural impact in a capital city setting. Through partnerships with global institutions like BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, and National Museum Wales, we significantly influence the musical landscape both inside and outside academic spheres. Our vibrant postgraduate community thrives on involvement, with students actively contributing to our research environment through participation in academic events, collaborative projects, and scholarly discussions.
