Cardiff's Medical Engineering program ranks among the UK's longest-running and is ideal for those seeking to merge traditional engineering education with healthcare applications. This course prepares graduates to excel in clinical engineering, bioengineering, or other engineering sectors beyond medicine. A unique feature of this MEng Medical Engineering (International) program includes studying engineering in English at an overseas partner university for one semester, with over 65 university options across four continents available. Students can also opt for a year-long industrial placement between their second and third academic years, gaining hands-on professional experience with our support. Successful placement candidates receive compensation while developing valuable workplace skills across various sectors. The MEng program's final two years focus on deepening medical engineering expertise through advanced design, management training, and multidisciplinary project coordination skills.
Career outcomes - During 2015/16, 95% of the School's employable graduates secured jobs or continued education within six months of completing their studies. Medical engineering graduates enjoy diverse career paths in both specialized medical engineering firms and broader mechanical engineering fields. Cardiff alumni currently work with leading companies like Finsbury Orthopaedics, DePuy Synthes, and Huntleigh Medical. The healthcare sector also offers opportunities, with graduates regularly securing positions in the competitive IPEM clinical engineer/scientist training program (visit www.ipem.ac.uk for details), while others leverage their degree to transition into different professions.
