Biomedical engineering focuses on creating engineering solutions for healthcare challenges. This fast-growing field addresses medical needs by advancing technological innovations.
Our program maintains close collaborations with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital's Spinal Injuries Unit via the Scottish Centre for Innovation in Spinal Cord Injury. The Biomedical Engineering curriculum highlights Medical Device Regulation. Senior students complete an Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering course, providing essential skills for starting their own businesses. MEng final-year students participate in a six-month placement at industrial partners, international universities, or University of Glasgow research centers. Both our BEng and MEng programs hold accreditation from the Institute of Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Student organizations like GUBMES, Sensus, and Handprints offer engagement opportunities, including hospital visits. You'll gain from our robust industry and NHS connections, with professionals contributing to teaching, projects, and case studies while providing placement opportunities.
Our alumni work across manufacturing firms, the NHS, and various sectors worldwide. This program also serves as an ideal foundation for pursuing graduate medical studies.
