Constructing buildings is a multifaceted process demanding expertise from various fields. Our Architectural Engineering program offers comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering, concentrating on structural engineering and the built environment. This curriculum blends engineering precision with architectural innovation, while prioritizing ecological considerations. You'll gain solid theoretical foundations reinforced by hands-on experience in labs, research projects, site visits, and design workshops - all preparing you for a rewarding career in civil engineering. The program features an optional industrial placement year between your second and third academic years. We'll assist you in securing a paid position to gain professional work experience. Successful placement students not only earn a salary but also boost their employability through real-world exposure to business, industry, or public sector operations. As an international program, it includes one semester of engineering studies in English at an overseas partner university, with over 65 options across four continents.
Career opportunities - Our alumni primarily work in civil and structural engineering roles at leading consultancy and contracting firms, holding positions like graduate civil/structural engineer or building design engineer. In 2016/17, 96% of our School's employable graduates secured jobs or pursued further education within six months of completing their studies. Graduates have joined prominent organizations including Arup, Atkins, Capita Symonds, and Ramboll, working across the UK and internationally. Some work in architectural and building services practices, while others pursue advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) at UK institutions. Alumni have also joined national and multinational corporations in diverse sectors like finance, media, and marketing, with employers including Deloitte, PwC, and Virgin.
