Biomedical science forms the foundation of medicine and medical research, encompassing diverse disciplines such as human physiology, anatomy, disease mechanisms and treatments, biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology. Our five-year integrated master's program with a Professional Training Year is designed for future researchers and science professionals. This comprehensive undergraduate course allows you to investigate cutting-edge developments in your chosen specialization while receiving instruction in advanced research methodologies. The program draws from the extensive biomedical research conducted within the School of Biosciences and at the University Hospital of Wales, offering training in modern fields like cancer biology, stem cell research, tissue engineering, gene therapy, and neurodegenerative disorders. During your third year, you'll complete a placement at an academic, clinical, or industrial research facility, providing valuable hands-on experience that significantly boosts both your academic credentials and career opportunities. While many placements occur in the UK, students increasingly secure positions abroad in locations such as Southeast Asia, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Australia, Madagascar, and the United States.
Career opportunities - This integrated master's in Biomedical Sciences provides exceptional preparation for scientific research careers while developing specialized and transferable skills valued across various sectors. Our graduates have pursued rewarding careers in medical research, biotechnology, healthcare, toxicology, scientific publishing, pathology, journalism, public service, and management. The degree also serves as excellent preparation for professional training in teaching, medicine, dentistry, nursing, veterinary science, and accounting. According to 2016/17 data, 93% of our graduates secured employment or continued education within six months of completing their studies.
