The MA Urban Design program is a collaborative effort between the Welsh School of Architecture and the School of Geography and Planning. This course aims to empower professionals and academics to revolutionize urban design through innovative approaches and analytical reasoning. Urban design spans multiple disciplines, intersecting with architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, public policy, as well as fields like politics, economics, sociology, and cultural studies. The curriculum reflects this interdisciplinary nature in its theoretical framework, research methods, and design instruction. Students will be taught by distinguished faculty members from both schools, who are actively involved in projects locally in Cardiff, across the UK, and globally. Design studio sessions also provide opportunities to learn from industry-leading professionals. The studio curriculum emphasizes creating thoughtful, imaginative, and feasible solutions for real-world locations, tackling pressing challenges in contemporary design and urban development.
