Neuroscience explores the nervous system, examining everything from molecular activities in neurons to cognitive functions. With around 100 billion cells, the human brain continues to pose one of science's most fascinating mysteries. Our Neuroscience program lets you investigate these puzzles through diverse methods, from analyzing nerve cell biochemistry to studying mental processes from a psychological perspective. During your third year, you'll complete a placement at a research lab (academic, clinical, or industrial) or another approved institution. This provides valuable hands-on research experience that significantly boosts future career opportunities. While many placements are UK-based, students increasingly secure positions abroad in locations like Southeast Asia, South Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America.
Career opportunities - A Neuroscience degree provides excellent preparation for research careers, with many graduates pursuing PhDs or master's programs. Others excel in science-related fields including pharmaceutical research, healthcare, scientific publishing, and science communication. The program also develops versatile skills valued across various sectors like business, public service, and management. Additionally, the degree serves as foundation for professional training in medicine, education, veterinary science, and other fields. Recent data shows 93% of our graduates secured employment or further education within six months. Students who complete the Professional Training Year often find degree-relevant jobs more readily after graduation.
