Biochemistry explores life at the molecular level, with a legacy of groundbreaking scientific achievements ranging from enzyme studies and metabolic processes to gene identification and DNA structure revelation. Modern biochemistry now encompasses cutting-edge fields like genomics, genetic modification, artificial biology, and protein design. This program demonstrates how biochemical and biomolecular sciences drive progress across all life sciences, including medical and biotechnological applications. Students will acquire comprehensive laboratory skills through practical sessions, along with valuable competencies in computing, statistical analysis, data interpretation, and presentation. The curriculum provides exceptional adaptability, enabling students to either focus on specific interests or pursue broad interdisciplinary studies that reflect the School's research strengths. Degree specialization remains flexible until the final year, with options to continue with BSc Biochemistry or transition to other bioscience programs. Final degree classification depends on module choices, with guidance available from Personal Tutors. Students may also opt for the four-year MBiochem integrated master's program, ideal for aspiring research scientists. This biochemistry qualification prepares graduates for diverse opportunities in biological and molecular sciences, equipping them for research roles. Alumni have pursued rewarding careers in various sectors including biotech R&D, science communication, pharmaceuticals, molecular research, media, education, and veterinary medicine. Many graduates continue their academic journey through postgraduate studies like master's programs or doctoral research.
