The primary goal of the Master's program in Strength and Conditioning is to equip students for careers in the strength and conditioning field. This is accomplished through faculty members who possess both practical industry experience and ongoing research involvement in strength and conditioning and related disciplines.
The program also features numerous guest lecturers from the industry. It stands as the first of its kind to include a specialized internship component, allowing students to earn academic credits while gaining hands-on experience with sports clubs, professional organizations, or National Governing Bodies. The curriculum includes these mandatory course-specific modules:
Strength and Conditioning: Science and Application
Strength and Conditioning: Theory to Practice
Training Science.
Guest lecturers, consisting of the UK's most seasoned strength and conditioning professionals, supplement instruction from Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences' specialized faculty in strength and conditioning and related fields. These specialized modules are supported by a selection of required and elective courses shared with other programs in the School's Postgraduate Sport Studies Scheme. Students have the chance to cultivate both academic abilities like critical analysis and reflection, along with the practical competencies needed in this fast-evolving profession. The program's interdisciplinary approach is grounded in the scientific principles that inform strength and conditioning practice.
