This practical master's program, developed by sports broadcasting experts, trains students to become skilled professionals ready for careers in sports journalism and media. Created in partnership with BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports journalists, the course blends traditional broadcast techniques with digital media skills, focusing on live production, news journalism, and multi-platform storytelling.
Participants will acquire comprehensive production abilities, from filming and editing to audio recording and digital content creation, while refining their journalistic skills and editorial decision-making. The curriculum explores the dynamic between sports, media, and societal issues, alongside essential studies in media law, ethics, regulations, and broadcasting standards.
A key feature is the extensive 60-credit work placement, allowing students to gain hands-on experience through Cardiff Met Sport TV by producing video/audio content, podcasts, live shows, and sports coverage. Additional external placements with major UK broadcasters and Welsh-language media outlets provide further professional development opportunities for willing participants.
