The BSc (Hons) Health and Wellbeing Top-Up degree offers a valuable pathway to expand your existing expertise and earn a full degree, opening doors to career advancement or postgraduate studies.
This course caters to individuals with recognized qualifications in massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology, or those with relevant work/study experience in health-related fields. Applicants must have completed research methods coursework at Levels 4 and 5.A distinctive aspect of this program is its work-based learning component, helping you cultivate essential skills for professional practice. Throughout the year, you'll undertake at least two diverse placements, applying your expertise to assist clients with various physical and mental health needs, along with their support networks. The chance to collaborate with healthcare professionals adds significant value to this experience.Current placement options involve NHS palliative care services and mental health support roles within charitable organizations. Each student receives guidance from both an on-site supervisor and dedicated academic support staff.Students also collectively manage operations at the University's public-facing Complementary Healthcare Clinic during their studies.Beyond practical experience, you'll strengthen your theoretical foundation through the Health Behaviour Change module and choose between two specialized options: Applied Health and Wellbeing across the Lifespan or Advanced Practice (for complementary therapy students).The capstone project forms a substantial part of the final year, typically building upon research interests developed earlier in your studies. You may explore intervention impacts through case studies, conduct surveys, or perform literature reviews on selected topics.This program significantly boosts career prospects while providing excellent preparation for potential master's degree studies.
All applicants should have five GCSEs including English Language (or Welsh First Language) and Mathematics or Mathematics – Numeracy at grade C or above / grade 4 or above, plus: Foundation Degree or HND in Complementary Therapies (which must include modules at Level 4 and 5 in the subjects of massage, reflexology and aromatherapy) or in a health and wellbeing related field. An IELTS (or equivalent) score of 6.5 is required where English is not the first language. Candidates who do not possess normal minimum entry qualification may be interviewed and considered individually on the basis of their prior learning or working background. TOEFL Overall score: 83. Minimum scores required in each skill area are Reading: 19, Listening: 20, Writing: 24, Speaking: 20.
