This advanced degree program offers a superb chance to expand your expertise in complementary therapies, leading to a BSc (Hons) Complementary Healthcare (with Practitioner Status) through Cardiff Met's renowned Centre for Complementary Healthcare. After obtaining recognized qualifications in massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology at Levels 4 & 5, you'll concentrate on honing the competencies needed for professional practice through two distinct placements (one per term). You'll apply all three therapeutic approaches, frequently in combination, to assist clients with diverse physical and mental health conditions while supporting their families and caregivers. Many placements provide the invaluable chance to collaborate with or observe various healthcare practitioners. Current placement options encompass palliative care units at NHS Trust cancer hospitals, supported living facilities, mental health residential centers, and Cardiff & Vale University Health Board's mental health unit. Each student benefits from both an on-site placement supervisor and academic support from the teaching staff. Alongside placements, students collectively manage all operations of the university's public Complementary Healthcare Clinic. The curriculum also includes opportunities to refine therapeutic techniques and diagnostic abilities through Advanced Practice and Health Behaviour Change modules. A significant focus of the final year involves completing a research project, typically building upon interests developed during earlier studies, which should be addressed during the program interview.
