Study Countering Terrorism and Extremism and develop the critical insight and applied skills needed to understand one of the most complex global challenges of our time. This course will help you make sense of polarising issues by analysing real, high-profile cases and exploring the security and threat dimensions often missing from media coverage.
You’ll examine how terrorism and extremism are understood and addressed in a post-9/11 world, exploring their historical roots and ongoing impact. Topics include power, inequality, identity, ethics, risk, conflict, politics, policy, international relations, and policing powers, giving you a strong contextual understanding of contemporary counter-terrorism strategies.
What you'll learn
With an applied approach at its core, the course balances theory with practice. You’ll learn through simulations, working on real cases, and completing applied assessments designed to build transferable skills. Teaching is delivered by a highly experienced team, with input from past and present professionals working in counter-terrorism and extremism.
Drawing on CCCU’s extensive experience in policing education, you’ll study in a collaborative environment that encourages debate, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing. You’ll also benefit from interdisciplinary perspectives across policing, criminology, sociology, politics, law and forensic investigation, preparing you for careers in criminal justice, security and intelligence.
