Screen Media at Brunel has developed a significant research portfolio spanning diverse subjects, with many notable advancements in the discipline. The research can be broadly organized into four key themes: Representation and politics, Film and television in national and global contexts, Documentary theory and practice, and Gothic, horror, and fantasy genres. Faculty members have produced influential publications covering British, European, Hollywood, independent American, Hong Kong, and Third cinema; as well as horror, comedy, video practice-theory integration, Marxist media analysis, and contemporary British and American TV. Several staff members are also active filmmakers, particularly in documentary, and some employ documentary as a research methodology.

Throughout your PhD and for three years post-graduation, Brunel provides personalized career guidance. We advocate for proactive career planning and skill development from the outset of your research journey, particularly if you're undecided about your professional direction. Our career services encompass digital resources, individual advising, and a variety of events and skill-building sessions. The Professional Development Center organizes an annual schedule of career-focused activities, including industry panels, job fairs, employer meetups, and competency workshops.
