The School of Law fosters a vibrant PhD program, primarily through its three key research hubs: The Centre for American Legal Studies, The Centre for Human Rights, and the Centre for Law, Science and Policy. Additionally, we actively participate in the University-wide Centre for Brexit Studies.

Our current doctoral candidates are exploring diverse research areas such as death penalty studies, global human rights frameworks and trade deals, along with the intersection of legal and scientific principles in public health and criminal justice systems.

Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a 2:1 Honours degree, in a discipline related to law, to be considered for a PhD. Some PhD opportunities, such as those funded by a particular research council, may additionally require a Masters level degree.
