This Foundation Year is carefully structured to provide an additional year of study, helping you establish solid creative foundations for success in your chosen degree. You'll work in a vibrant, supportive atmosphere where you can develop practical abilities, creative thinking, and conceptual skills, all strengthened by academic writing, critical analysis, and emerging theoretical concepts. Our dedicated Foundation tutors, BA faculty, and skilled technicians will guide you throughout the year, preparing you for advancement. You'll engage in both collaborative and individual projects designed to enhance your social abilities and define your emerging professional identity. The curriculum challenges you with projects that push your creative boundaries through diverse experimentation, expanding both your technical and analytical skills. You'll examine suitable materials and methodologies for creative growth while considering your place within historical, current, and future contexts. Practical and written research assignments, supported by individual tutorials and group discussions, will help develop your academic and social confidence. The initial semester modules establish fundamental creative practice principles, emphasizing technical proficiency, study techniques, and productivity. Later modules foster stronger connections between research and practice while testing your decision-making and technical abilities. This phase prepares you for independent learning essential to BA-level studies. Upon completing the Foundation Year successfully, you can choose to transition to related undergraduate programs in BCU's College of Art and Design or College of Digital Arts. Progression to your BA program requires passing all four core modules (120 credits total).
