Birkbeck's MA Creative Writing program is led by one of London's most dynamic and diverse departments. For nearly two decades, we've helped passionate student groups refine their creative pieces and evolve as writers. Our alumni include an expanding roster of published and award-winning authors whose works first took shape in our workshops.

This program is ideal if you've been developing your writing craft and seek professional mentorship, constructive critique, and the opportunity to work alongside published authors and fellow aspiring writers.

Instruction occurs through intimate seminars and personalized tutoring. We provide specialized courses in fiction writing - encompassing both short stories and novels - while supporting authors across various prose genres, including fiction and nonfiction. Additional options include playwriting, poetry, screenwriting, creative nonfiction, plus hands-on learning experiences in publishing, production, and editorial processes.
