The BA in Linguistics and Culture program enables you to explore linguistic studies alongside diverse cultural subjects related to French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Latin American traditions, with opportunities for cross-cultural comparisons.
Within the linguistics portion of the degree, you'll examine language structure, functions, and how individuals use language to convey information and express identity. You'll acquire skills in building and assessing linguistic arguments while comparing different analytical approaches to data. Additionally, you'll investigate the characteristics and boundaries of various theoretical frameworks. Linguistics study fosters a scientific, analytical perspective on language mechanics and its societal role. A distinctive aspect of this program is learning to apply linguistic techniques and models to practical situations and real-world challenges.
Simultaneously, you'll develop in-depth understanding of one or more cultural regions (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, or Latin American), covering literature, philosophy, and film. The curriculum also offers options to study comparative cultural elements.
