The principle that preventing illness is more effective than treating it afterward grows increasingly important. As more people face multiple chronic conditions and preventable long-term health issues, the focus on prevention becomes both more urgent and necessary. Prevention involves supporting individuals to maintain their health, happiness, and independence throughout their lives. It emphasizes proactively avoiding health problems rather than merely addressing them after they occur. True prevention goes beyond the absence of disease—it involves cultivating personal resources that promote mental and physical well-being. Moreover, prevention cannot be achieved solely through healthcare systems, as many health determinants extend beyond their scope. Achieving widespread prevention requires embedding health equity awareness and commitment into healthcare practices.
