Bangor University's MSc in Counselling is designed to equip you for professional practice within the counselling and psychotherapy field.
This program examines diverse psychological theories and therapeutic techniques to deliver comprehensive training in adult counselling. You'll study Humanistic and Person-Centred approaches, Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic methods, Behavioral techniques, and Cognitive therapies. The curriculum also incorporates integrative models such as Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Transactional Analysis.

Practical training forms a core component, with opportunities to enhance communication abilities and apply therapeutic methods. You'll participate in supervised counselling sessions with fellow students, building toward a 100-hour supervised placement. Our experienced instructors, including NHS practitioners, will guide your skill development and clinical application. Past students have undertaken placements with organizations like NHS Primary Mental Health Services, CRUSE bereavement support, Age UK, and sexual abuse support services.
The program maintains rigorous academic standards, blending psychological theory with research methodology to produce well-rounded professionals.
