The term 'Celtic' conjures vivid imagery - from the delicate artistry of Bronze Age ornaments to the monumental scale of Stonehenge and Newgrange, from the epic tales of Arthur and C√∫ Chulainn to the poetic traditions of medieval courts. Yet Celtic heritage extends far beyond ancient history, encompassing the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and New World experiences, while embracing Romantic ideals, revolutionary movements, and contemporary efforts to preserve linguistic and cultural identities. Bangor University's innovative program empowers students to distinguish historical truth from myth while thoroughly examining this complex legacy. Through a year-long curriculum, specialists from Welsh Studies, History, and Music departments will guide explorations of literature, archaeology, religious practices, mythological traditions, antiquarian studies, artistic expressions, and musical heritage - tracing Celtic cultural evolution from prehistoric hillforts to modern autonomous governments. Participants will receive dedicated mentorship while conducting original research for their Master's thesis, with all coursework offered in English or Welsh, plus extensive ESOL support when required.
