This program is designed for individuals seeking to advance their expertise in this discipline. It focuses particularly on connecting theoretical concepts with practical applications.
The curriculum enables participants to expand their professional development while leveraging their existing background in English language instruction. Participants will explore the connections between educational theory, classroom practice, and contemporary research through various methods including classroom observations, micro-teaching sessions, group learning activities, and context-based evaluations.
This multidisciplinary initiative combines the strengths of both the School of Education and the renowned English for Academic Study Unit (School of Modern Languages and Cultures). Our approach integrates substantial professional knowledge and research capabilities in language education. Graduates may pursue roles such as English instructor, curriculum developer, assessment creator, program coordinator, or teacher trainer.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
2.1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent in English, education, applied linguistics, translation, English literature, TESOL/TEFL (UG) or TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). Modern foreign languages other than English are considered, and a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (ELT) OR
2.1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent in a different subject AND teaching qualification, such as CELTA. 2 years relevant work experience is required in addition to these qualifications. We can consider applications from graduates from other fields who have substantial TESOL experience and an evidenced commitment to professional development.
Those with a degree in business English are not normally considered and should apply for the MSc Educational Studies.
A personal statement saying why you wish to take the programme must be included in your application.
