Our Law with Modern Languages program enables you to combine legal studies with learning a modern language (French, Italian, Spanish, German, or Chinese). Legal professionals with multilingual abilities are highly sought after both in the UK and internationally, and this degree helps you build practical proficiency in another language. You can start as a complete beginner or continue at an intermediate level. The program cultivates intellectual independence, helping you develop the confidence and abilities to think critically, pose insightful questions about law's societal role, and articulate well-reasoned arguments both verbally and in writing. You'll gain knowledge about legal principles and justice systems while exploring how law can serve individuals and communities, especially marginalized groups. Alongside language studies, you'll cover core legal subjects like Public Law (examining national governance), Criminal Law (analyzing punishment and rehabilitation), and Contract Law (understanding legal agreements). The curriculum offers diverse elective options including International Law, Commercial Law, Human Rights, and Family Law. A Work Placement module provides real-world legal experience. The learning approach is interactive - beyond traditional study, you'll develop advocacy, debate, and negotiation skills through various activities. The program includes professional development initiatives, visits to legal institutions, and guest lectures. Your studies will provide both the theoretical foundation and practical skills needed for legal careers, whether you aim to become a solicitor or barrister.
