Zoology is the scientific discipline within biology focused on animal life. This field encompasses diverse subjects such as behavior, physical form, biological functions, growth patterns, environmental interactions, evolutionary processes, and classification systems. The curiosity about animal conduct has given rise to ethology, a specialized zoological branch dedicated to behavioral studies. This program offers comprehensive zoological education with a behavioral focus, examining how creatures communicate with each other and adapt to their surroundings, particularly investigating the underlying processes, purposes, growth patterns, and evolutionary origins of behaviors. Students receive thorough training that balances theoretical knowledge with practical applications regarding animal existence. A key feature involves hands-on learning through laboratory sessions and fieldwork, alongside developing valuable competencies in statistical interpretation, collaborative projects, public speaking, and digital proficiency. Beyond accessing contemporary animal biology facilities, learners benefit from nearby diverse ecosystems - including land, ocean, and freshwater environments - ideal for field research. The university houses an extensive Zoology Museum and collaborates with the Environment Centre Wales, a joint initiative with Bangor University and the Natural Environment Research Council's ecological research division. Additional resources include specialized aquatic habitats and facilities for birds, mammals, and reptiles. Opportunities exist for placement years and international study periods.
