This dynamic BN Adult Nursing (Distance Learning) program equips you with the essential knowledge and competencies to graduate as a qualified adult nurse. You'll complete practical placements in both community and hospital environments through our Welsh partner organizations, gaining exposure to diverse adult healthcare specialties. The nursing profession offers extensive career prospects across primary care settings and secondary care environments such as Emergency Departments, specialized medical/surgical units, and intensive care. Newly registered nurses benefit from structured preceptorship programs that facilitate the transition from theory to practice, followed by ongoing professional development opportunities. The defining characteristic of adult nursing is versatility – registered nurses with adult field qualifications (and potential additional credentials like prescribing or teaching certifications) provide care across all life stages, including maternal and infant health protection. Your clinical placements will showcase this variety through experiences in:Primary Care SettingsGeneral and specialized medical/surgical units in acute hospitalsCritical care environments (ICU, HDU, emergency departments, operating theaters)Home-based community nursingResidential care facilitiesAfter registration, adult nurses can pursue numerous advancement opportunities, including roles as Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Specialists, Consultant Nurses, or specialized ward nurses (ITU/CCU/HDU), along with community-based specialties, Practice Nursing, and Research Nursing. The field presents limitless possibilities for a fulfilling career with continuous professional growth support.
Applicants must normally have, or be working towards, a minimum of five GCSE grades A*-C/9-4 including GCSE Welsh or English first language and Mathematics/Numeracy (or a recognised alternative qualification), but consideration is given to individual circumstances.
Recognised alternative qualifications for Welsh/English and/or Mathematics are Essential Skills Level Two in Communication and Application of Number, or Functional Skills Level Two in English and Maths (must be achieved within the last 3 years). The Irish Leaving Certificate minimum of O4 is the equivalent to GCSE Grade C/4.
