English holds significant social, political, and economic importance as a global language, spoken by approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide. This creates substantial demand for certified English teachers across the globe. Our English Language for TEFL program delves into linguistics with an emphasis on English. During your final year, you'll take specialized TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) modules, preparing you for certification as an English educator. Throughout this course, you'll analyze various facets of human communication, examining how language skills evolve, how speech adapts to different contexts and speakers, how our brains process language, and effective teaching methodologies. You'll trace English's historical evolution while speculating about its future, comparing global variations of English usage, and exploring practical considerations like the millions learning English as a secondary language. The curriculum covers general linguistic principles while encouraging comparisons between English and other tongues, especially in multilingual environments where English coexists with other languages. Optional Placement Year and International Experience Year available.
