Our doctoral programs in research enable you to participate in ongoing projects or pursue your own academic interests in Musicology, guided by our expert faculty. Our scholarly work involves critical and contextual studies, primarily concentrating on 20th-century and modern music along with performance traditions, such as Cuban music, while also examining early music practices and reception through ethnomusicological research. These investigative domains often complement the creative work of our faculty members in composition and performance.
The cross-disciplinary approach of our research fosters a vibrant intellectual atmosphere for both faculty and students. You'll have access to numerous research-focused activities, including departmental seminar series, performance showcases, and global academic conferences.
We maintain strong connections with the broader community, collaborating with local cultural institutions like The Junction, Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, and Kettle's Yard, as well as the University of Cambridge's CRASSH and multiple NHS healthcare partners.
