Our doctoral programs provide the opportunity to join existing research initiatives or pursue your own academic interests in Film and Media Studies, guided by our expert faculty. You'll receive dedicated supervision from two primary advisors, with access to additional specialists when needed. Our supervisory team possesses extensive knowledge across diverse areas including digital media theory and practice, network culture studies, cinema and gender, violence in visual media, modern European film, television genres, and popular music culture.
You'll undertake your research within an interdisciplinary setting that fosters collaboration, maintaining strong connections with both university research networks and cultural institutions such as the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, Kettle's Yard, and CRASSH. We regularly organize and participate in academic events for researchers and graduate students, including departmental seminars, publication launches, art exhibitions, film screenings, and global conferences. Our seminar series offers a supportive platform for presenting your work. These professional networks, complemented by our digital resources, facilitate connections with fellow research students across various disciplines. Financial assistance is available through our annual funding allocation for postgraduate travel, conference participation, and select scholarship opportunities.
