If you're passionate about science fiction, poetry, stage plays, or screenwriting, our BA (Hons) Creative Writing program will help you grow as a professional writer. At ARU in Cambridge, you'll master professional writing techniques to craft engaging stories across genres—from poetry and drama to short fiction, copywriting, and journalism. Situated within the Cambridge School of Creative Industries and surrounded by experts in drama, film, gaming, journalism, publishing, and digital media, you'll gain the skills for diverse career paths.

As you progress through your Creative Writing degree, you'll refine your writing abilities, preparing for roles in teaching, editing, arts management, journalism, publishing, advertising, film, video production, and game development. You'll also join ARU's dynamic writing community, connecting with peers, alumni, and postgraduates who will help you build professional networks and entrepreneurial skills for freelance and portfolio careers. Industry professionals—including authors, editors, and agents—will share insights through guest lectures, offering valuable networking opportunities.

Qualification Requirements

96 UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent).
3 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above, including English.
If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
An International Baccalaureate with a minimum of 24 points.

IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each element.
TOEFL iBT with 80 overall and a minimum of 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
