Abertay University has investigated Sound and Music for interactive media applications through teaching and research since introducing games programs over twenty years ago. Currently, our researchers are pioneering advancements in dynamic audio production for various applications such as gaming, immersive environments, artistic installations, and performance-based experiences.
Research opportunities encompass both hands-on and theoretical investigations into Sound and Music. Abertay's notable expertise includes audio synthesis, implementing dynamic audio within game engines and related technologies, and examining sound design in virtual and augmented reality environments.
Investigations in this field benefit from the resources available at the Emergent Technology Centre and nearby Recording Studio. Dedicated audio laboratories, recording gear, and specialized software support researchers focused on creating, implementing, and evaluating interactive audio systems.
As the principal partner for InGAME: Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise - an AHRC-funded research and development hub for Dundee's gaming sector - Abertay University provides postgraduate students with research opportunities and connections to gaming industry professionals.
