This represents a possible research degree field, pending University authorization. Prospective students interested in pursuing research in this discipline should consult with the Dean to review their proposed study plan.
Abertay's Psychology and Forensic Sciences Division plays a significant role in offering research degree opportunities, including collaborative programs with the NHS, regional education authorities, Police Scotland, as well as business and digital technology sectors.
As part of the Scottish Graduate School for Social Sciences, Abertay's psychology researchers work across disciplines with peers from other academic departments. The university specializes in various areas including psychophysics, vision science, numerical cognition, language acquisition and processing, comparative psychology, forensic psychology, social cognition, cognitive neuroscience, and movement perception studies.
The psychology research facilities at Abertay are comprehensively equipped, featuring nine dedicated faculty members, specialized research laboratories, and experimental workspaces. These spaces contain advanced computing systems with specialized software (E-prime, Superlab, N-Vivo, Paradigm, SPSS, Observer XT) and specialized equipment such as an anechoic chamber, surveillance systems, eye-tracking technology (SMI 3.0 Eye View, SMI Eye View X HED), physiological monitoring devices (GSR, EEG, tCDS), and the BioHarness Telemetry System. Researchers also benefit from access to virtual reality facilities and other digital resources through interdisciplinary partnerships.
Our research programs equip graduates for academic and research careers, as well as various professional opportunities beyond academia.
