Forensic Psychologists serve as scientist-practitioners across multiple sectors including criminal investigations, law enforcement, judicial systems, probation services, civil and criminal justice frameworks, secure healthcare facilities, offender rehabilitation, and private consultancy. This MSc in Forensic Psychology, currently undergoing British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation, delivers the foundational Stage 1 theoretical and empirical training required to progress toward advanced professional certification (either BPS Stage 2 or the Health Care Practitioner Council (HCPC) pathway). Students will develop a rigorous academic comprehension of the diverse factors influencing criminal behavior, while critically examining how causal theories inform offender treatment programs and service design. The program equips students with essential competencies for forensic psychology practice, spanning interdisciplinary collaboration, violence risk evaluation, ethical considerations in vulnerable populations, professional development, and forensic report composition. Graduates will emerge with comprehensive knowledge of legal frameworks and forensic psychology's professional scope, alongside practical skills for applying psychological research to legal contexts. The curriculum addresses contemporary themes such as Neurodiversity and Vulnerability in Justice Systems, Sexual and Violent Offenses, Investigative Techniques, and Professional Ethics. These specialized modules, combined with hands-on forensic volunteering placements and data-driven analysis in our Forensic Data coursework, ensure graduates are practice-ready for trainee psychologist roles, capable of applying their expertise to actual casework. Professional AccreditationThis program is currently under review for BPS accreditation. Upon approval, it will fulfill the Stage 1 requirements for progression toward advanced professional training (BPS Stage 2 or HCPC registration). Career ProspectsThe Forensic Psychology MSc serves as the essential foundation for Stage 2 training toward HCPC registration as a Forensic Psychologist (requires BPS Graduate Basis for Chartership). Graduates qualify for trainee or assistant psychologist positions in correctional facilities, probation departments, forensic psychiatric hospitals, NHS services, and nonprofit organizations. The degree also creates pathways for advanced academic and clinical training, including professional doctorate programs in Forensic Psychology.
