Abertay's Division of Psychology and Forensic Sciences plays a significant role in facilitating research degrees, collaborating with organizations such as the NHS, local education authorities, Police Scotland, and various industry partners in business and digital technology.
As part of the Scottish Graduate School for Social Sciences, Abertay's psychology researchers work across disciplines with colleagues from other academic departments. Specializations include psychophysics, vision science, numerical cognition, language acquisition, comparative psychology, forensic psychology, social cognition, cognitive neuroscience, and movement perception studies.
The psychology research facilities at Abertay are fully equipped, featuring nine dedicated faculty members, specialized laboratories, and experimental workspaces. The infrastructure includes high-performance computing systems with specialized software (E-prime, Superlab, N-Vivo, Paradigm, SPSS, Observer XT) and advanced hardware such as an anechoic chamber, eye-tracking systems (SMI 3.0 Eye View, SMI Eye View X HED), physiological monitoring equipment (GSR, EEG, tCDS, BioHarness Telemetry System), and access to virtual reality technologies through interdisciplinary partnerships.
These research programs equip graduates for academic careers, research positions, and various professional opportunities beyond academia.
