Elevate your love for theater through the School of English, Film, Theatre, and Media Studies. Our Theatre Program provides a solid foundation in practice-based research, with particular emphasis on directing and creative development techniques. Immerse yourself in Shakespearean performance, investigate New Zealand's theatrical traditions, or experiment with innovative scenographic technologies. Gain expertise in diverse scriptwriting methods for the stage. Hone your directing skills or pursue independent research in your chosen theatrical field. The program specializes in intercultural, indigenous, and diasporic performances, eco-conscious stage design, Shakespearean acting, direction, and adaptations. Alternatively, focus on dramatic writing, gender studies, popular culture performances, or theater for young audiences. Cultivate both independent and collaborative research abilities while learning from faculty whose enthusiasm rivals your own. You'll draw from their professional experience in directing, production design, playwriting, and acting—both locally and internationally.
