The nation stands as a global leader in research and development, with its well-resourced universities attracting scholars worldwide. Currently, the motivations for studying German are more compelling than ever. It ranks as the most widely spoken language across the European Union. With Europe's strongest economy and ranking third globally in exports, Germany plays pivotal roles in the EU and United Nations.
Earning a German major creates diverse career pathways in both private and public sectors—spanning business, trade, consulting, tourism, education, and governmental roles like foreign affairs. Otago alumni with German qualifications have secured positions globally as consultants, marketing executives, journalists, educators, and library professionals. German studies graduates develop versatile, transferable competencies. The analytical prowess, communication skills, and international outlook gained through Otago's German program provide distinct advantages.
