French stands as a globally significant language, serving as the native tongue for millions across Europe, Africa, and Canada. It holds official status in Pacific regions just a short flight from New Zealand. Mastering French provides a competitive edge in international business, tourism, and organizations with global outreach. Careers in Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism, and Treasury often seek French speakers. You could advance New Zealand's global interests while enjoying travel opportunities, or work as a conference interpreter, literary translator, or film subtitler.
Otago alumni with French qualifications have pursued diverse careers worldwide as educators, librarians, advisors, marketing executives, and reporters. The critical thinking, communication skills, and global outlook developed through Otago's French program open doors to numerous professional paths and give graduates a distinct advantage.
