In a society deeply influenced by faith yet fractured by religious tensions, scholarly and scientific analysis of religion has become increasingly vital. Otago's Religion program enables you to analyze religious doctrines and customs while exploring their impact on human actions. You'll study religion's evolutionary roots, psychological foundations, and historical progression, along with its connections to contemporary governance, legal systems, and societal changes. Moving beyond conventional faiths, you'll explore emerging spiritual movements that have developed alongside established religions. The program addresses these subjects with both analytical rigor and compassion, presenting perspectives that may challenge traditional beliefs while striving to comprehend the viewpoint of practitioners.
