The Mātauranga Māori Initial Teacher Education program prepares you for roles in whare kōhungahunga (early childhood) and/or kura tuatahi (primary) environments with level 2 (51–80% te reo Māori immersion) or greater requirements. Graduates of the Mātauranga Māori curriculum gain skills to work in bilingual English-medium educational contexts, where proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, bicultural approaches, and culturally affirming teaching methods are recognized as vital for fostering children's growth.
