The Master of Dance Movement Therapy offers globally recognized professional certification. Through two years of intensive study and research, students gain expertise in core elements of dance movement therapy, encompassing anatomy and kinesiology, movement analysis, psychological principles, therapeutic dance applications in clinical and community environments, and both individual and group therapy dynamics. The program encourages critical evaluation of methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and contemporary challenges, preparing graduates to advance the field through both practical application and academic contribution. This qualification enables registration as a professional dance movement therapist across New Zealand, Australia, and other international settings, serving clinical populations and community groups. Graduates emerge with career prospects at the intersection of dance and wellness in various domestic and global contexts. The degree meets international accreditation standards, allowing graduates to practice throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the broader Austral-Asian area. Successful completion qualifies students for provisional membership with DTAA (Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australasia) as Dance Movement Therapists and full professional registration with ANZACATA (Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association) as Creative Arts Therapists.
Research 240 points: You must have completed the requirements for the bachelors degree or higher in a relevant field with a GPA of 5.0. Relevant fields include Dance Studies, Counselling, Exercise Sciences, Health Sciences, Physical Education, Psychology, Sport Science, Theatre Studies, and/or qualifications that lead to registration as a health professional.
You must provide a CV, written statement, and attend an interview. You will also be required to consent to the disclosure of criminal convictions.
IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands less than 6.0.; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
