The MCW program supports authors engaged in substantial creative writing endeavors, whether it's a novel, short story anthology, nonfiction manuscript, or poetry compilation. The initiative is led by acclaimed fiction author and essayist Paula Morris, with former Poet Laureate Selina Tusitala Marsh providing guidance for poets. Weekly sessions combine collaborative workshops with educational seminars. Participants benefit from insights shared by both local and international literary figures, as well as professionals from film, radio, theater, publishing, and the broader arts community. Notable guest authors have included Airini Beautrais, Teju Cole, Michel Faber, Aminatta Forna, Stephanie Johnson, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Elizabeth McCracken, Amy McDaid, Frankie McMillan, Karlo Mila, Ben Okri, and Ngugi wa Thiong'o. This intensive program hones the necessary skills to complete your manuscript while advancing your creative development. Alumni have successfully published works with prestigious imprints such as Allen and Unwin, Penguin Random House, Cuba Press, Bloomsbury, Auckland University Press, Canterbury University Press, Huia, and Text.
